One H.O.T.’s Goals For The Year To Come

In the past I’ve blogged about the importance of setting goals in your business. (Here are links to Part 1 and Part 2of the Goal Setting posts). All that is important for the H.O.T. to do personally as well. The more intentional you can be, the better!

Let’s break these down a little further:

1. Intentionally place Christ at the front of my marriage and leadership in the household.

For the Christians out there, hopefully you’ll recognize the importance of this. Christ should be the center of your relationship with your wife or husband. He will make your relationship work (and be fulfilling!) far better than you can do it yourself. I’ve learned this the hard way in the past, and in the present I can tell you that my relationship with Holley is always better when my focus is on Christ.

2. Focus my primary efforts on the relationship with Holley to make it the best it can be (#1 will help with this too)

No matter how many “things” I do for her business directly, what I do for the relationship with my wife is always going to be more important. Not only that, but if my relationship with her is shaky, then all those other things I do won’t be seen as valuable as they are when our relationship is solid. I will emotionally support my wife every chance I get! (FYI, this is HARD sometimes)

3. Become more proficient with video and to encourage Holley to do more small videos for her team.

Jason Dorsey made excellent points about connecting with different generations. One of the “take-homes” for me was it’s important to use every form possible to connect with people, especially in Direct Sales. Video is an important piece of that because it is visual and powerful. I need to be proficient and efficient at helping Holley with this.

4. Be more active in networking with other HOTs

I absolutely loved connecting with the other HOTs at NC this year. There are tons of ways to connect, including @31ManPac on twitter, the Facebook group H.O.T. (Husbands of Thirty-One), this blog, and others. I have some ideas for connecting with HOTs at C&Cs this year, too.

5. Clean up Holley & my social networking presence

I just signed up with Klout.com (and did it for Holley, too) to give a metric to our social media presence. That’s just one step. Now to integrate Instagram into the equation for me & Holley. And maximize our presence on those media. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve done too bad a job with this in the past. But this is an area where persistence and longevity definitely pay off.

6. Gently but persistently encourage my wife to Blog. And help her however she needs helping.

Holley has a tremendous presence and gets tons of respect in her circles. What she has to say is generally very valuable. I’ve always thought that if she starts blogging, it will be a HUGE deal. I would love to see what happens there! Here’s Holley’s website, btw.

7. Avoid any large gaps in blogging myself.

Blogging consistently is one of the hardest things to do. Especially when there is “life change” to deal with. This year I’ve not been doing a great job, but I think I’m starting to get stuff sorted out. Also, I’m going to try to keep my posts shorter.

Feel free to ask me how I’m doing with these anytime you see me (or when you read this post)!

What are YOUR H.O.T. (or Direct Sales Husband) goals for the rest of this year?
